National Nest Box Week is an annual event that takes place in the UK during the week of 14th-21st February. The event aims to encourage the public to put up nest boxes in their gardens or local green spaces to provide nesting sites for birds, especially during the breeding season.
Get Ready For Nesting Season
This week is chosen as it is the time of year when birds begin to look for potential nesting sites in preparation for the upcoming breeding season.
The event is organised by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), a non-profit organisation dedicated to studying and conserving birds and their habitats. The BTO provides information and resources to help individuals and communities create and manage nesting sites, including guidance on choosing the right type of box for different bird species and how to maintain and monitor them.
National Nest Box Week is an excellent opportunity for people to engage with nature and contribute to bird conservation efforts. By putting up nest boxes, you can help provide safe and secure breeding sites for birds, which in turn can help to boost their populations.
