A high quality Starling Nest-box with a pre-installed Sony Effio Ultra High Resolution Camera, delivered to your door ready assembled with easy set up instructions.
This colour nesting box camera with Infrared (IR) night vision provides colour images during the day and black & white images at night. There is also a built in microphone so you can hear as well as see what's going on.

The Starling Nest Box

Our Starling nest box offers market leading quality, durability and great value for money. Handmade in our UK workshops from high grade 21mm PEFC Western Red Cedar (responsibly sourced) this starling box design follows guidelines suggested by the RSPB. The nestbox hole is 45mm, there are 4 drain holes in the bird box floor. The front and top panels are screwed for ease of cleaning out which is recommended to be in the months of September and October. A quick release mounting bracket holds the camera in the optimum position, this also allows for ease of camera transfer between other gardenature nest boxes and viewcam feeder products if required. This starling bird box with camera offers you a top down view of the nesting chamber, so you will be right there in the nest getting to know the chicks!

The Camera

This Sony EFFIO CCD Ultra High Resolution 700TVL (TV Line) Camera has been designed specifically for use with Gardenature camera nest boxes and feeder camera kits. This truly outstanding bird box camera uses an intelligent Sony Effio DSP Chip which operates with a Super Light Sensor to cleverly adjust the image quality to suit its environment. Not only this, the light sensor also serves to adjust the x10 infrared night vision LEDs to a graduating on/off, gently supplementing loss or gain of natural light levels with an invisible IR. The result of this outstanding technology is that we can now produce ultra high resolution colour images in full light of day and sharp black and white images at night or low light level conditions. This mini nest box camera also incorporates a highly sensitive microphone so you can hear as well as see what's going on. The camera has a 3.6mm lens which produces a 92 degree viewing angle, the perfect setup for a nest box. The lens will have already been pre-focused to the correct position for you, but it can very easily be adjusted to suit alternative applications.

The Rest of the System

A professional x3 core cable (Audio/Video/12vDC) is already connected to the camera in the roof of the nest box, the other end of the cable needs to be routed into your property. The cable plugs are black, yellow and white. The black is for mains power and connects to the (supplied)12V DC power adaptor / plug. The remaining RCA yellow (video) and white (audio) connectors can either plug into a spare AV/AUX socket on your TV, / DVD recorder, or a spare TV scart input using the (supplied) scart adaptor. Switch on at the mains plug, then select the appropriate AV channel on your TV, sit back and wait for the show to start! All very easy but if you need any help we are just a phone call away.

Starling Facts

Smaller than blackbirds, with a short tail, pointed head, triangular wings, starlings look black at a distance but when seen closer they are very glossy with a sheen of purples and greens. Their flight is fast and direct and they walk and run confidently on the ground. Noisy and gregarious, starlings spend a lot of the year in flocks. Still one of the commonest of garden birds.

Conspicuous and widespread in the UK, they are seen everywhere except for the highest parts of the Scottish Highlands. They are most abundant in southern England and are more thinly distributed in upland areas with moorland. Still one of the UKs commonest garden birds. Huge roosts are found in plantations, reed beds and city centres.

Starlings can be seen all year round. Large numbers arrive in the autumn to spend the winter here. Their diet is mainly Insects and fruit.
