Common Blue Tit
Posted 24 Jul 2017
More than 90% of gardens enjoy regular visits from Blue Tits,They have blue caps, wings and tails, a green black and a yellow
breast and underparts. A distinctive black ‘robber’s mask’ runs from the base of the bill, obscuring the eyes. The sexes
are almost impossible to separate, but the males usually have slightly brighter blue on the wings and crown. Juveniles
have a more ‘washed-out’ plumage with the face and underparts being the same pale-yellow colour. Blue Tits are active,
acrobatic birds that readily exploit new opportunities. If you put out a new feeder, the chances are the first bird to
use it will be a Blue tit.
You can help these garden birds by installing a nest box or you could make it really exciting and install a blue tit camera nest box, fun and educational for all age groups!
