Hedgehogs staying up late!
Posted 19 Jan 2017
In November there was more recorded activity of Hedgehogs in gardens than in previous years and sightings remained higher than average for December (2007–2015). Late Hedgehog activity has been most pronounced in the south and east, which also experienced warmer temperatures than the rest of the UK. Hedgehogs need to accumulate fat reserves before hibernation, and it’s likely that they were making use of milder conditions to continue foraging. Now that the temperature has dropped, Hedgehogs should be hibernating; if you’re concerned about a Hedgehog you've found, please contact your local vet or wildlife centre
